Welcome

Welcome to Brown NZ Ltd, an Auckland based landscape architecture and landscape planning practice that operates throughout New Zealand and has, in recent years, also undertaken projects in Australia and Hong Kong. Established by Stephen Brown, this nationally-renowned practice specializes in strategic, project and site based assessment: with recently completed projects including landscape assessments of the West Coast Region of the South Island, Coromandel, Otorohanga and Buller Districts, the Waterview Connection Project (SH16 & SH20) for the NZ Transport Agency, and recent involvement in wind farm applications on behalf of Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power Ltd and Wellington City Council. From 2002 - 2005 Brown NZ Ltd provided advice on the methodology for a study that mapped the landscape values of Hong Kong, as part of a team led by Urbis Ltd: in 2006 that study was the recipient of the Strategic Planning Award from the (UK) Landscape Institute. Most recently Brown NZ won an NZILA Distinction Award for the evaluation of geomorphic / geological sites within the Auckland Region and whether they qualify as Outstanding Natural Features. These projects demonstrate the range and depth of the practice's experience and expertise in the assessment / planning arena, but also reflect a commitment to our clients' needs, responsibilities to the wider community and environment, and professional integrity.

Although known for these areas of specialist landscape expertise, Brown NZ Ltd offers a wide range of skills that embrace all aspects of landscape architecture. This includes masterplanning, with the practice being responsible for the preparation of a development strategy, concept and detailed designs for the 'Dairy Block' (including a new town centre and residential) at Lincoln, south-west of Christchurch - for Ngai Tahu Properties and Lincoln University. At a more detailed level, Brown NZ Ltd also has on-going involvement with redevelopment of the Diocesan School for Girl's and has recently completed detailing work for a brickworks heritage park in Hobsonville. The practice's masterplanning projects are underpinned by a commitment to the principles of NZ Urban Design Protocol, while all of its design projects bring a strong focus on client requirements, quality design outcomes, environmental responsibility and engagement with local communities.
