Landscape Evaluations of the Geological Sites and Landforms of Auckland

Brown were commissioned by Auckland Council to identify and evaluate which of the 270 geological sites and landforms identified within a draft schedule prepared for the Auckland Regional Policy Statement (now superseded by the Unitary Plan) can also be regarded as Outstanding Natural Features within the context of section 6b of the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). Targeted fieldwork was undertaken to evaluate those identified sites as per the criteria - developed from a previous work stream which analysed past case law and current RMA policy surrounding the identification of geological features as ONF's as well as the intrinsic geological values applied through Schedule 6. The final report included a site description, delineation of the ONF on an aerial map, photography, and a table illustrating the key ONF evaluation factors and ranking.
